I love old school music, I love classic R&B and soulful love songs and I realise everyday that I share this interest with a lot of people. Presenting “One night stand with the King” on Radio 2000 allows me the opportunity to hangout with people who share this passion for great music. Of all the comments I’ve heard about the show, one that I will always remember was said by Aaron in Bloemfontein “the music you play makes you sound like you were born in an old age home”.
I have been at this radio thing for almost 18 years now. I started as a presenter at a campus radio station in Durban Westville in 1993. Did a few weekend breakfast shows for Durban Youth Radio. Sent a demo to Yfm that was rejected, gave another demo to TNT Radio, which was also thrown in a bin somewhere in Soshanguve. Then stalked Romeo Kumalo for a few years while I was writing for City Press (about radio). Romeo did give me a job eventually and I worked for Metro FM as breakfast and afternoon drive producer for almost 7 years. There I worked with Just-Ice, Azania and Pabi Moloi.
During my time at Metro FM I came up with the big celebrity breakfast take-over idea, whereby different well known personalities hosted the breakfast show for a month. This idea was used again in March 2011 and I was requested to be the caretaker producer for a week.
Now I am on the only station that matters, Radio 2000. Happy days are here again. |
